The large vase in the antechamber is a gift from the Navy to Christian IX and Queen Louise at their golden wedding in 1892. The vase is 185 cm tall and is, fittingly, decorated with naval motifs. It is placed on a bronze table with porcelain parts.

The last 25 years of the 19th century was a peaceful period in Denmark. Inventions like electricity, telephone and radio came to Denmark and industrialisation made goods cheaper and easily available to the Danes. Prime Minister J.B.S. Estrup in consultation with Christian IX carried through the first Conservative budget circumventing Parliament.

In 1863 Christian IX became the first king of Denmark of the Glücksburg line. It was not expected originally that Prince Christian was to become king of Denmark but as Frederik VII didn't have any children, it became necessary to find an heir to the throne elsewhere.
