English Princess crown

English princess crown that is assumed to have belonged to Princess Louise, who married crown prince Frederik (5.) in 1743.

The ermine fur trim is a modern copy.

Louise was the daughter of King George 2. of Great Britain, and queen of Denmark and Norway from 1746 to her death in 1751. Even though she only sat on the throne for five years, she was very popular with the people – especially in Copenhagen.

Her presence at court was a fresh breath of air, compared to the pietistic rule of Christian 6. The Queen was joyfull and loved balls and dancing. It was a great sorrow for Frederik 5. when she died during a pregnancy. She gave birth to four surviving children.
